Prince of tides
Creamy Cavendish Beach in Prince Edward Island National Park,
on the island’s north shore, touches rolling dunes, red cliffs and
the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Walking trails take you through woodlands
and wetlands, and kids love playing on the white sandy shores.
Cavendish is particularly famous for Avonlea Village, a storybook
town based on Lucy Maud Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables.

Pretty in pebbles
Travelling up Newfoundland’s northern peninsula
along the Viking Trail, visitors can stop
for a picnic while soaking up lessons in geology
and prehistory. Thanks to tectonic shifting and
the sculpting power of waves, wind and ice,
an enormous bed of ancient limestone that
was once underwater is now perched on a
pretty pebble beach in Arches Provincial Park.

PINWARE RIVER PROVINCIAL PARK, N.L.
Fish and ships
Swim in the Pinware River in southern Labrador before it opens into the Strait of Belle Isle,
and as a bonus, learn about Basque fishermen and 16th-century whaling at Red Bay National
Historic Site of Canada, a short drive from Pinware River Provincial Park. Stroll the coast at
L’Anse au Clair, and catch a glimpse of the Bubbling Sands — periodic geysers in the sand
caused by an underground stream.
