“It’s our way of helping in Third World countries,” says Wendy Hofer of the annual quilting bee hosted by Airport Hutterite Colony, northwest of Portage la Prairie, Man. Each winter over the past four years, the colony has invited women from other Hutterite communities to gather together to make quilts for the Mennonite Central Committee’s (MCC) disaster relief efforts. This year’s event took on a special urgency after news broke of the earthquake that devastated Haiti.
