Spring is one of my favourite times of year, but every year I forget exactly how variable the temperature can be! In the course of a single day's hiking, the mercury can easily yo-yo from 5 degrees to 25.  Layers are key, but once they're off you have to carry them around all day. This spring, Parks Canada and Canadian Geographic collaborated to award a grade-eight class from Caronport, Sask., Canada's Coolest School Trip — a four-day adventure to Cape Breton Island, N.S. Parkbus continues expansion

Parkbus is a not-for-profit which aims to help city dwellers get out to nearby provincial and national parks in Canada. On the eve of their expansion to Ottawa, Canadian Geographic rode along with the co-founders to talk about what the future holds for this fast-growing company.

When I travel, I never keep all of my valuables in one place, and I often feel a bit cartoonish as I divide my cards and cash among numerous inserts, pouches, wallets and pockets. Last fall, my frustration came to a boiling point. I was monitoring the Ukrainian election, and I had to carry large amounts of cash so I could pay my interpreter and driver. I didn’t like the options I had, and got pretty freaked out about carrying what amounted to a year’s worth of wages for most locals with me for over a week.
