Canada's latest UNESCO World Heritage Site

A slice of Novia Scotia that has meadows stretching into the distance protected by miles of dykes, a stone-and-stained-glass memorial church, a famous winery and the best viewpoints to watch a billion tonnes of saltwater flood the Bay of Fundy twice a day, is among the latest additions to UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites.
The Landscape of Grand Pré was one of 26 new sites announced at the 36th World Heritage Committee in Russia on June 30, just in time for Canada Day. Others added to the list ...

Recycling Agricultural Plastics: Where we’re at in Canada

It may be illegal but burning agricultural waste plastics, like grain storage bags and twine, is still a common occurrence in Canada. In a lot of cases farmers just don’t have a lot of other options. 
Earlier this month an article published in the journal Science listed banning the burning of agricultural waste as one of 14 methods that could significantly reduce global warming by 2050.

Build it and they will come was Laura Madison’s hope when she created an online mapping tool to display real-time data about this year’s destructive spring floods in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

Originally created to map post-electoral violence in Kenya, Ushahidi — Swahili for "testimony" — is an online crisis mapping platform that was also used to map the protests in Egypt and the ongoing battle in Libya.

Organic Maple Syrup Could Bring on Buyers Remorse

An iconic product, maple syrup is touted as "all natural" and "purely Canadian." The technology used to produce it has advanced, but the product still tastes the way it did hundreds of years ago. Nevertheless, there's a new trend on the rise - organic maple syrup.

Longer Ragweed Season in the Works

After reading this you may want to buy stock in - or stock up on - Kleenex. Ragweed pollen is lingering in the air for more than a month than it did in 1995, says a study published last month in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The increase is accredited to rising temperatures and delayed fall frosts in northern regions. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), this means that the allergy season will also end much later in the year.
